Thomas Murphy was born in Villerstown, Waterford Co., Ireland, on April 27, 1840. He was the son of William and Ellen (White) Murphy. His family immigrated to the United States in 1841 or 1842 and settled in the vicinity of Moretown, Vermont. Thomas' mother died November 9, 1853, and some time afterward, Thomas was sent to live with the family of Judge Jacob Kimball Parish in Randolph, Vermont. In honor of the family that befriended him he took the middle name of Parish. ...
